An
outdoor propane patio heater might be the perfect heater for you
and your patio… or maybe a natural gas one would be better…
or a butane one… or an electric one. It seems that there are
so many different types of heaters – how do you decide which
one to get? Is an outdoor propane patio heater really the best type?
Well, we know that
outdoor propane patio heaters use propane, but what
is propane? Propane is normally found in gas form, but it can be
compressed into a liquid. As a fuel, it is called liquefied petroleum
gas and is made up with propane (about 90%) with small amounts of
butane, propylene, butylenes, and ethanethiol – the ethanethiol
is added as an odorant so that it is easy to tell (by way of smell)
if there is a leak.
Propane is not just used to run outdoor propane patio heaters –
in fact, it is very commonly used to fuel barbecues. It is very
easy to find tanks of propane at many gas stations where you can
just pay a fee and exchange your empty tank for a full one.
The production of propane is actually a byproduct of petroleum
refining and natural gas processing. To make natural gas, both propane
and butane must be removed (in this sense, butane is also a byproduct
of natural gas processing).
Like the price of gas, the price of propane differ because of many
factors, including the seasons. And because the propane used in
outdoor propane patio heaters is merely a byproduct, as the demand
for propane arises, the amount of propane available does not necessarily
rise, too.
The price of propane depends on the prices of both natural gas
and crude gas. Crude as and propane gas are main competitors. Also,
the distance you are from a source of propane will affect how much
you have to pay for it, as will the available propane.
Outdoor propane patio heaters are just as clean-burning as butane
and natural gas heaters. People like propane because it is so fuel
efficient – you might say that it works harder than other
gases, but costs less. Depending on where you live and a few other
factors, it may very well cost less to run an outdoor propane patio
heater than to run one with natural gas, butane, or electricity.
Other benefits of outdoor propane patio heaters is that propane
has a very good safety record. It is nontoxic with minimal emissions.
When combined with air, propane will not ignite unless the source
of ignition gets all the way up to 940 degrees Fahrenheit.
All in all, gas patio heaters are more efficient than electric
ones. Outdoor propane patio heaters, depending on where you live,
might be a pain to provide propane replacements for. Of course,
if you do not want to drive to find any, you can usually find someone
to drop of regular propane replacements. If you already use natural
gas in your home, then a outdoor natural gas patio heaters might
be the best type for you. Of course, it may be a bit harder to bring
one of these out to the far reaches of your yard.
The majority of propane used in outdoor propane patio heaters is
produced right here in the United States. You can therefore be sure
to almost always have a supply of it. These are just a few of the
reasons why you may want an outdoor propane patio heater.
